Hey, hey, guys, it's Angela McKay here, and welcome to season three of the Laundrom Diaries podcast. We're calling this season the new chapter season because, well, I just turned 50. I walked away from a legacy business that I built for a decade and I hit that reset button and I'm starting fresh with a whole new vision, guys, for life, health, motherhood and business. And if you're a mom ready to rewrite your story to, this season is going to be for you, friend, yes, turning 50. It didn't feel like a breakdown, though it was more of a breakthrough for me. Guys, I wanted to really take, take you behind the scenes of this, because sometimes we have this misconception that that midlife is a crisis and I felt like it was a calling, and so I wanted to share. You know why I decided to hit the restart button, why I gave up a very successful business and wanted to pivot, to align with clarity and purpose, not just paychecks and, more importantly, I wanted to start sharing some of the things that I'm going through as that midlife mom raising seven kids, as they kind of are approaching that, leaving the nest stage and really getting into some of those raw moments that we have in motherhood. You know, I think that sometimes we as women especially, have this misconception of what age is and what it should be, and so we're telling ourselves this story of what 50 or I know I did for quite some time. I thought like this was the season where, you know, things were coming to an end. It was more of a fear of letting go and I decided I didn't want to be that person. I wanted to embrace the mom moments, cherish those memories, but live in the legacy of now, not the leaving the legacy behind. And so this season I'm going to really dig into this and I hope you're excited because what I have for you guys is not just about business anymore, it's about that full picture of life.
Speaker 0:I decided when I turned 50, really about 49, I had a chance to rewrite my story. I was struggling with health. I had some pretty scary things happen to my health personally. I really struggling with health. I had some pretty scary things happen to my health personally. I really realized I could settle in and accept this is just how it is with all those havocs of hormones and you know, just not not really putting myself first for a long time in my life with my health journey, or I could flip the switch and I could take ownership, really understand what was going on and take initiative to change it. And I took the latter of that. I got really really into a space of understanding and educating myself, understanding that, yes, maybe this is how it is right now, but it's not going to be like that forever. And in fact, I was going to take charge and find ways to feel better in my day, feel better with my health, and how to build and rewrite my business and my wealth story. And so you know, that's what led me to season three here. I felt like this was the perfect time.
Speaker 0:Ironically, today I sit here in my home for the first time since before COVID, when I started homeschooling the kids because, remember, we had to, and then it became and I want to, and we've really homeschooled our children to high school since then and it became such a blessing for us. We had so many great memories. I got to spend so much time really getting to know my children, watching them learn and grow, and those are places I will never look back with regret. It was really the silver lining moment of what a crazy time. And so now I'm sitting here and all my kids are two are gone and out on their own, two are off to college in a few weeks and there's three still a new senior this year, with five graduating after this year and three in high school, and so it feels a little weird.
Speaker 0:Today I was talking to a friend and she said how does it feel? And I said it feels uncomfortably comfortable. I mean, I'm excited about this newness, I'm excited that I might have, you know, a clean kitchen for more than 30 minutes, but it's a little quiet. It's a little different here, and so it's going to take some adjustment and, just like anything else, it's about adjustment. New periods and new beginnings and new chapters are all exciting, but they're not understood. There's no certainty as to what's going to happen, and I'm not looking at that as a fear space of oh no, things are changing. I'm looking at it from an excitement that things are changing. I'm looking at an excitement that I can get uncomfortable, but I can grow into it and I can find the comfort of the new beginnings that I have in front of me, and so I'm just really just pouring my heart out.
Speaker 0:Today. I wanted to talk to you about the upcoming season so you know what to get, because before it was very tactical, it was about how to build your business or how to be a direct seller. Because that's what I've done for 18 years. I've been a busy mom of seven, raising kids through those crazy cycles of life. I've hit every kind of moment along the journey, every age, from toddlers and babies to teenagers, to those leaving and everything in between. And I've built a business. Before I built my own brick mortar business, I built a business online and then I built a network marketing business. That blessed us immensely, and so I've really kind of went to mentorship and coaching and the podcast became that space for quite some time, and now I feel like it's a part of it, but it's not all of it.
Speaker 0:There's a lot more to me than just business. I don't wear just the business hat anymore, so I want to put on the hat that's your friend. I want to put on the hat that's your fellow mom. I want to put on that hat that says hey, you know, I have been there through the hard midlife moments that we're going through as women, with hormones and understanding what the heck is happening. Um, I've also been the mom that has had the mom guilt. So if that speaks to you. I struggled that for years, like not knowing how to give myself permission to to dream and do big things and not make it less than being a mom. So I've worn so many hats, friend, but today, right now, I'm just putting on taking off all those little hats and I'm showing up just authentically and real, kind of unedited and in the space of now, with this new chapter, and so I'm really excited to share with you some of the things I've discovered in this last year and what made me say time to make that change.
Speaker 0:You know I get that question a lot. A lot of people sit in a space right now where they're stuck in fear, they feel stale or burnout, and when I have those DM messages or people reach out, and when I have those DM messages or people reach out, I look to those encouraging words of you're not alone. You're not alone. I felt that way too, and what I would say and what had helped me was my faith. I had very, very strong faith foundation and I took a lot of time to pray about those next moves and, honestly, it was a Saturday that made me kind of decide to walk away from a legacy business, and what I mean is that we were, you know, building a global brand with a company that we helped launch. We had comfort, we had security, we had, you know, profit sharing, you know the networks. We had all the things.
Speaker 0:But there was something missing, and it wasn't just about the paycheck. It had to be in alignment with my purpose and I had changed. I'd grown from the 10 years that I had started. A lot had happened. I had found Christ. I had really redefined why I show up in my business. It wasn't just about money, it was about the people, it was about feeling like I'm doing something beyond our four walls. And so, when it became that moment where I had to decide to leave that legacy business, it was basically because it was out of alignment, and maybe that speaks to you. Maybe you feel a little out of line right now. Maybe things just feel a little off. Things just don't quite make sense. It doesn't feel like it used to.
Speaker 0:Those were all things that were kind of running through my head over the course of about two years and for a while, the security of the paycheck or the income because it was a very blessed income kept me there. Right, I thought, gosh, how can I give this up? A multi seven figure business? Can I do it again? Do I want to do it again? What if I fail? What if I just got lucky? You know, we start telling ourselves these internal lies or limiting beliefs and all of a sudden, that fear held me in a space that felt very hard for so long, where I didn't find joy in the journey of my business. I didn't show up as a leader because I wasn't happy and and I just really felt a heaviness on my heart almost every single day and I thought life is just too short to just settle in because there's commas on a check Like of course I can do this again. I've done it once. It's proof that it can happen. Is it going to be hard? Probably it's going to be work, absolutely. But can it be done? Yes, it can be done.
Speaker 0:And so I was on this quest to find the next space, my next home where I could lay roots and honestly, guys, I looked at everything. I felt like and I probably didn't look at everything, but it felt like I did and it was when I wasn't looking is when I found that perfect opportunity, that perfect place that really did align, that checked more boxes than I knew, and I know that's a cliche thing. People say all the time in business it checked all the boxes. But, friend, I'm telling you right now, it checked all the boxes. It felt so good, it felt purpose driven.
Speaker 0:It wasn't just products, it was impacting products, products that could make. I saw people making a difference in their life and I thought, wow, I could actually help people just with the products used. You know, there's a lot of great products out there, but there's not a lot of products like this and I thought, oh, this is, this is great and, honestly, it was products that I needed to. My health was not going in the right direction and and that's a conversation for another day but I thought, well, if anything, the products are going to be amazing. Right, I'm going to. It's going to be a win. I needed these products, my husband needed these products, I knew a lot of people that could use these products and and, honestly, friends, the business just kind of opened up because it took a little bit for me. I had some scar tissue, I had some pain from leaving, I had some worry about can I do it again, and we were in a struggle because I kind of sacrificed our, our income and our nest egg went dry faster than not because of the way of the world today. And so, um it was.
Speaker 0:It was a season of challenge. It was a season of kind of getting really real and raw with myself about what it is that I wanted, what it is that I was going to allow to have in my life, who, what. You know what. I was going to spend my time on, what were my non-negotiables, and I'm going to ask you do you have a list of your non-negotiables? Do you understand what it is that you want in your life and what you don't want in your life?
Speaker 0:I think for women, for many years I had a blurred line there of non-negotiables. I was kind of the pleaser, or you know, sometimes we call ourselves the doormat. We just want to. We say yes to everything, but inside we're going oh, why did I say yes? Oh, I wish I would have said no, but I just didn't want to disappoint, and so I had to really work on external validation for a long time, and in my 40s I really did that.
Speaker 0:I really started to realize there's patterns here, and we're going to unpack some of that probably throughout the podcast we're going to talk about some of the struggles. We're going to talk about the wellness and getting healthy and not looking at your fitness as a number or what used to be as a number or what used to be. We're going to embrace with a new perspective and a new filter, with an enthusiasm of what is to come, and not look behind us as leaving a legacy, but in fact, friend, we're going to learn to live in the legacy of today, and that's my mission for us. And so what am I doing now? Well, I got a little bit more time on my hands so I thought why not? Why not take what started as a passion project, pre-covid that got put on a shelf because I had seven kids, a dog and no quiet space? Now I've got all this room in my day and I've got quietness, and I've got this ability and I've got the experience to come in as the mom with the hat or the friend with the hat, or the brand strategist or the entrepreneur you know, or whatever it is, and take those experiences and really talk to you about how you can learn from the lessons that I've taken through life, through business and as a mom, and apply it to you.
Speaker 0:So if you're the person right now kind of feeling stuck or not sure what the next is, this is going to be the season for you. I'm excited to have you here, and so every single day, I'm going to come in and we're going to spend a little bit of time. Grab a cup of coffee, grab, whatever it is, your water bottle If you're on the treadmill or if you're in the car line or if you're just taking a quiet moment to just mentally fill up your cup. That's what I hope this is for you. The Laundry Room Diaries is going to be a place that's really going to allow you to to be you and embrace that special season and that new chapter. And then I'm going to drop some fun on Fridays, because who doesn't like a freebie? Like I am a sucker for a great freebie and I've got lots of tools and I've got lots of tips and I've learned so much, and so I thought let me give you something tactical that you could take into that next week.
Speaker 0:And if you're an entrepreneur, it's going to help you. Maybe if you're a mom someone that's going to be mom driven it's going to help you Time management systems, branding, ai. Maybe it's just getting healthy, or working on just a mindset, or focusing on how to tackle those bigger small goals. Whatever it is, I hope that this space is going to be the umbrella that you want to come under and learn from, and so I invite you guys to sit to just Put the notifications on. Come in every single day with me. Let's have a lot of fun. I guarantee you there's going to be some stories. My kids give me a lot of content. There's going to be a lot of laughter, there's going to be a lot of learning, but, more importantly, I hope there's going to be a lot of encouragement, because that's what this season's about for me.
Speaker 0:It's to really shed that light on the now and let every person that I come into know that you are so deserving. You deserve to find alignment, you deserve to have the life that you want to live, and I'm going to teach you how, from the best of my ability through my experiences, and give you some of that guidance. So, as always, guys, thank you so much for being a part of this platform. I'm going to ask you if this speaks to you. One share with a friend that just came across your heart and your mind that you want her to tune into this. We can always kind of pass this on and make an impact better than ourselves. So share it to a bestie or a girlfriend or a sister or mother or business partner and say, hey, I think this podcast might be for you.
Speaker 0:Drop me a DM, tell me what your new chapter is like. I love hearing from fans. I'm so blessed to have fans globally. Um, this little podcast that started literally in my closet is now like I've got that. So drop me a DM, tell me a little bit about your new chapter, what your next chapter looks like. Dm, tell me a little bit about your new chapter, what your next chapter looks like. And, as always, if you can write a review and subscribe. I always like the feedback. It helps me become better for you and to serve more, and I just appreciate you. So until tomorrow, I hope you guys just keep I always say kind of dancing through the day. I know I'll be dancing through my day in a couple hours as they all come home hearing about the first day of school. We'll get back to the chaos in the kitchen with dinnertime and all the noise, which is my comfort zone, and I'm just excited to share this next chapter with you. Thank you, guys.
