The Molecule That Changed Everything At 50 For Me

Angela McKay

How Nitric Oxide Boosted My Energy, Heart Health, and Clarity at 50

I hit 50 and started feeling… off. I had a big scare, and had been suffering from heart palpitations, low energy, brain fog, slower recovery, and a general sense that something wasn’t clicking. That’s when I found out about nitric oxide—a natural molecule our bodies make that’s essential for blood flow, heart health, and brain function, especially for women over 40.

In this episode, I’m sharing exactly how nitric oxide changed the game for me. I’ll tell you what it is, how I knew I needed it, and the simple ways I started boosting it daily—through food, movement, breathwork, and one supplement that made a huge difference. You’ll also hear about a client who had a complete energy comeback in just 30 days. If you’re looking for a natural way to feel better, think clearer, and age stronger, this one’s for you.

Speaker 1:

Hey guys, welcome back to the Laundry Room Diaries. I'm Angela McKay, your host, and today we're going to be talking about something that's a little bit different than what I normally chat about on our podcast, and, in fact, it's something that I'm pretty excited to share because it's had such a massive impact on me personally, and so I don't know if you've heard any of the buzz out there, but nitric oxide's a big deal and it's a little molecule we all need, and, in fact, it's a secret weapon for heart, health, energy and even sleeping, and so if you're a midlifer like me, a woman, especially 40 or over, this episode is going to be such an exciting episode for you, because when I discovered what my body was doing in the perimenopausal years and how I was feeling, and then I supplemented this into my life, everything changed Not only for me. I put it on my husband on it too and he had some remarkable things happen, and so we're going to talk about this today what nitric oxide is and what it's going to do for your body, and if you've never heard of this, you might even want to grab a pen and paper, because there's going to be some information in here that I think is going to really start to help you put together some understanding about what you're feeling like in this midlife kind of space of perimenopause. And so let's let's talk about the wake up call that I had. Now I'm going to take you back to September of 2024.

Speaker 1:

I was getting off a plane in Indianapolis my home airport and I was coming home from a business trip and I had been suffering for almost two years with just erratic heart palpitations, hot flashes. I called it the 3 AM club, where I was up all night. But I'd wake up at 3 AM almost like on the dot, because my cortisol was so high and I couldn't go to sleep. And so I was foggy brained all day. I was exhausted, I needed a nap, but mama seven, that's not going to happen, and I was. I was putting weight on in my perimenopausal days and I was just feeling like crud. I was feeling horrible, and so that day on the plane, I started to really feel a tightness. I thought I was having a heart attack and I got the flight attendant's attention and they got me a wheelchair because I was traveling alone. And it was one of the most single, scary moments, because when you're traveling alone and something like this happens. You feel very vulnerable, and I remember calling my husband saying the plane has landed, but I'm getting a wheelchair. They'll take me out to the curb, don't panic when you see me in a wheelchair. I didn't want to just have him pull up to pick me up. And here I am in a wheelchair, um, but I'm not feeling very well, and so, of course, he panics a little, right, um, because this is not normal. And so, um, that was starting. That was probably the start of my concern.

Speaker 1:

A month later, my mother had a heart attack. Yep, guys, she had a heart attack, got a phone call and the doctor said, if it would have been 10 more minutes, we would have been planning a funeral, and that really woke me up. And then February came, right after the holidays and our, my mother in law, passed from a heart attack, and so all of a sudden, it became very much like a neon sign that we have family history. I'm suffering from things. I can't take this lightly. I have seven children and a husband. I need to be responsible. Something's got to give. And so a friend of mine, not knowing my situation, I had been through a really rough year. Leaving a legacy business I built the stress of starting over. You know, like all the things giving up my income, it had been a lot. So I was kind of in the mind space that I guess this is just how it is. I'm in perimenopause, I'm turning 50 in July, you know, I've had seven kids. My body's, it's put a toll on me and I'm under so much stress because I left my business to start over and left my income. And I guess this is how it is. Well, no, friend, it's not just how it is and in fact it was. Um, what that excuse could have really ended up hurting me if I would have settled into that as an acceptance.

Speaker 1:

But I found that when my mother had a heart attack and then we lost my mother-in-law, there was something I had to do. I had to take action in my health. I didn't want to age and just age. I wanted to age healthy. I wanted to. I knew it wasn't too late, but it was going to be sooner if I didn't make some changes.

Speaker 1:

So my friend called me out of the blue, said hey, yada, yada, yada Want to talk to me about business? And I was very politely saying no, because I was on my way out of my industry of network marketing and not into the unknown. And she said let me just get you on this phone call. I want you to hear this. This is different. So, because she's a good friend, I said okay and I got on and I listened and they started talking about this product with nitric oxide and how the statistics of cardiovascular disease and stroke, which were my life I was living this right, like my mother, my mother-in-law, me what's happening and it really it knee jerked me into reality and thought like wow, if anything. Because my mind was still like I'm leaving the industry. But if anything, the products might be something.

Speaker 1:

And so I was blown away seeing this product that had a Nobel prize doctor that created it, 26 year old company, internationally, but new in the US. 26 year old company internationally, but new in the U. S diabetes association has awarded it. It's in the medical PDR. Cardio Cardiologists are writing scripts for this product and it's natural, it's not pharmaceutical. And I thought I need this product for me, I need this. And so I said okay, I'm going to do the product, I want to see what it does and let me think about the business right, like if the products are great, maybe I'll do this because I'm all about the products.

Speaker 1:

And so I got on what they call their 21 day challenge and it was a gut reset, you know, resetting that microbiome, which I knew was important, detoxifying heavy metals and microplastics, which was important, and I was really hoping it was going to help with all of the hormonal stuff that I had going on the heart palpitations, the hot flashes, the insomnia, the headaches, the extreme cycles, still just the moodiness, the brain fog, you know all the things. I felt like it was like check, check, check and I said, okay, let me get on this and see. And so I I did it. It was not a it's not a hard program. You know, I'd get up, I'd take a pre and pro pre and pro biotic from my gut health. I take, um, you know, this pro arginine product that was really the nitric oxide, and I take a DTX fiber drink that was scrubbing out my intestines and getting my gut set. And then I'd have a microbiome shake, which was amazing because it was super convenient and it tastes good. And then I do the evening protocol of a magnesium and another one of those pro-arginine and I was like this isn't hard, this isn't like you have to take time off and, you know, go hide, and for 21 days I can do this. And so I just committed to it because I really wanted to see my health change. And so I started to educate myself more about nitric oxide while I was on the product and I started to understand that nitric oxide is something we produce, but as we get older it just naturally depletes. And because it naturally depletes, our veins start to get stiff, because nitric oxide is what makes everything flexible, it's what helps the circulation in our body, it's what helps everything kind of work and move the way it's supposed to, and so that's why you know, if you have stiffness in the veins and arteries, that's where things can start to have some problems. So I thought, oh well, this is starting to make a little bit more sense as to how I'm I'm feeling. So day five no, I felt like I had a little more energy, but nothing over the moon.

Speaker 1:

But day 10, something happened. That was my wake up call that this was something bigger than I thought. I had not been able, guys, to walk up and down my stairs with ease in about two years Now we don't have a big grand staircase, we have a typical up stairs and downstairs. But going upstairs was very challenging for me. I would take a few steps, I'd take a few breaths, take a few steps, take a few breaths and unfortunately, by the time I would get to the top of the stairs. I usually was almost having an anxiety attack because I was so out of breath and it was very scary. But what happened on day 10 of this 21 day challenge, unbeknownst to me, I didn't even really, it didn't even register. I went upstairs. It was the end of the night.

Speaker 1:

My husband came up and he walks in the bathroom. He goes do you know what just happened? And the mom brain comes on. I thought seven kids, two dogs, like oh no, what just happened? And I was like no what? And he said you just walked up those stairs for the first time without stopping and without anxiety or gasping for air in about two years. And I looked at him and I got teary eyed and I was like, oh my gosh, I hadn't even realized it. I was in such mom mode with my to-do list, I hadn't even realized that's how easy it was for me to get upstairs, friends.

Speaker 1:

And all of a sudden I was like I've only been on this product 10 days. I was like you need to get on this product, scott, because he's a type two diabetic, let's see what it does for you. And so he started the journey with me. Guys, I'm here to tell you. What happened to just him and I in 21 days was enough for us to say this product is life changing, and that's why I've got such a fire in my belly to share it, because I know there's people out there.

Speaker 1:

I saw the statistics on the slideshow that they presented to me and I know that there's people one out of two, every two people are going to have some sort of cardiac issue in their life and I thought, wow, everyone's nitric oxide levels depleting. Everyone has a cardiovascular system that's aging. Most people are having circulation issues that are causing other issues and most people want to reset their gut. I said I think I can get on board with this. I think this is exactly what I need to be focusing on, and so I jumped in.

Speaker 1:

I jumped in and started sharing this with people because I was so passionate about the results, because, by day 21, I had lost 16 pounds, because I was ridding myself of endotoxins through that reset, getting rid of heavy metals and microplastics. I was resetting that gut biome and I was losing weight, because when you have toxins, you have fat cells. Fat cells protect your body from toxins and so when I was ridding my body of endotoxins, instead of just losing weight, toxins go into the body. The body creates more fat. Oh, we've got a yo-yo diet. I was now seeing results.

Speaker 1:

All of a sudden I'm like I can't believe my my shirt feels longer or my pants are a little looser. What is going on? I'm really not doing a lot of different things and that really took me into that aha moment, like whoa, this makes sense. And then my husband started doing his blood glucose and they were in the one fifties and in four weeks of just the pro arginine and the 21 day challenge, he was at 98 on his blood glucose level 98 friends. Now I'm not making medical claims, I'm sharing our personal experience with these products and I thought, wow, I am so grateful I learned about this little molecule because at 50, it's changing the way I live and feel and I'm so passionate to share it.

Speaker 1:

And so if some people are like hey, angela, look, I always say do you know anything about nitric oxide? Some say, actually, I have heard of it. I'm looking at it and I started to share it a little bit on social media and all of a sudden my inbox blew up and people were like hey, what are you doing? Tell me more. And that was a really earmarker for me to do this podcast, because when people have a genuine interest in something, I want to serve it to more people and that's why I put it out here.

Speaker 1:

But what I found is people are looking for ways to naturally increase their nitric oxide level, which I'm going to share with you, and a way to supplement, which I'm going to share with you, and a way to supplement, which I'm going to share with you. But the fact is is you probably have some need for a little bit of that, whether you know you're younger and your cardiac system is intact and you're. You know you're still thriving, but as you age, at some point you're going to have that, and so it doesn't matter the age. This is not something you take at 50. I have my kids, my 18-year-old. He takes it, you know, before a workout. So this is a really exciting, exciting product. And so nitric oxide we've talked about what it is.

Speaker 1:

Some ways naturally you can get it are through. Things like leafy greens, beets, citrus, things like that are going to help you kind of naturally put that into your diet, and that's great. But we all know I think pomegranate was the other one we all know, though, that we can only eat so much. Supplementation is necessary because of how we grow our foods. So you can add those things in, you're going to start to see a boost. You can also do bursts of energy movement like rebounding or circuit training, squatting or lifting. This was really ideal for me, because I didn't have the cardio output to go run or bike or, you know, swim for hours. So circuit training has been really helpful for me because I can do those little intervals and it's really boosting my nitric oxide level. Naturally, deep breathing, doing mindful breathing I find this to be so helpful in the morning and at night, just kind of almost like it gets me into a state of relaxation and focus and, by breathing a certain way, it's going to help increase that nitric oxide level in your body.

Speaker 1:

The other thing is just getting out in the sunshine. Man, how many of us just don't do that anymore, right? We're on our phones, we're in our work, we're in our car. We're not out in the sun. We have that circadian rhythm and we have to get out in the sun, especially if you take a vitamin D supplement, like I do. It's got to synthesize. So just 20 minutes just going out, especially in the morning, letting that sun hit your skin, is so good for you, friend Um, and it's a good reason to say, hey, I need 20 minutes of alone time out in the sun.

Speaker 1:

If you're a busy mom, the other thing I would say is avoiding things that sometimes are not good for you, things that are chemicals, like antacids or fluoride mouthwashes. Things like that I found when I was deep diving, are just not good for nitric oxide and it works against you. So if you have those things, you might want to look for an alternative a fluoride free Don't take the antacids. Look for natural remedies for some of these. Thingsfree Don't take the antacids. Look for natural remedies for some of these things. And then I would say the supplementation having a protocol to take things that you know your body needs.

Speaker 1:

So if you're a lady, especially nitric oxide is something you're going to want to look at. You're going to want to look at a high grade formula, and what I have and what I sell is the highest grade formula. It's actually the purest form of nitric oxide in the world. I can say that because it's been tested and it is. It's actually listed in the physician's desk reference because it is the highest level nitric oxide and so when you have something that cardiologists are prescribing as a nutraceutical, a nutritional therapeutic, versus a pharmaceutical, that's something you might want to take a look at. And if you're interested, just reach out to me and I will be happy to give you the link to look at that.

Speaker 1:

The other thing I would say is is that you just want to make sure you don't forget to to take inventory on yourself. If you're not sure if your nitric oxide's low, I'm going to be dropping out a freebie that's going to help you kind of understand what I do daily to help boost it the supplementation that I take and then to evaluate to see if you're also suffering from maybe a low nitric oxide. Now, it's not a diagnosis. I'm not a doctor, I am a nurse, but I'm not a doctor. But this is just something that's going to help you baseline so that you can understand. Maybe this perimenopause phase that you're in you might be going through some of the things that I was going through. At the end of the day, I can get you whatever you need If you want to take a look at the clinical studies, if you want to look at the doctors that are formulating this, the Nobel Prize science behind the formulation of R-arginine. I would love to share that with you and guys.

Speaker 1:

I just hope that this episode, although it wasn't my normal you know, boss, mom, kind of rhythm that we normally talk about I felt like it was something that definitely needed to be talked about because, even as an entrepreneur, we can only be the best that we can be when we're taking care of ourselves, and sometimes in the grind and hustle of life, we put ourselves last. That's where I found myself, not because I didn't want to put myself first, but as a busy mom with seven kids, running businesses and doing all the things, sometimes those needs to stop and breathe or take 20 minutes in the sunshine or just be really intentional in what I'm putting in my body, you know, getting the rest and putting up those boundaries so I can do those things were hard. Those were hard things for a long time, but as I've gotten older, I've learned that this is something that you have to do and it's a form of self-care and self-love, and it's important. And so I want to empower you. I want to empower you today, friend, to take notice of what you need to do for you, because you can be only the best mom or only the best entrepreneur, only the best wife or the best friend or daughter, sister, whatever it is, if you're taking care of your best self.

Speaker 1:

So, friend, I hope this episode has helped you. I hope it's touched you, maybe even has inspired you that it's not just how it's supposed to be, that there are ways to feel better and you can age not only gracefully as we get older. You can get through this midlife season of perimenopause and menopause and you can start to feel better again, with sleep and rest and feeling energy and feeling healthy and really looking forward to those latter years of your life. So, as I wrap up, thank you again, friend, for letting me come into your day today. It's always a pleasure to be here. I love my fans of the Laundry Room Diaries. I'm going to be dropping a great freebie for you this Friday about nitric oxide. Keep an eye on that. In my communities and social spaces and, as always, I always encourage you to just embrace life. I always say dance through the hard moments, enjoy the joy of the journey and until next time, just keep being a light, take care.
